2025+ (6th Gen) Toyota 4Runner Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) & Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA)
(Reference: 2025 Owner’s Manual, pg. 316–330)Link to Owner’s Manual: 2025 4Runner Owner’s Manual
The 2025 4Runner offers two essential safety features—Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA)—to help drivers stay aware of their surroundings and avoid potential collisions. Both systems work together to enhance driving safety by providing alerts about vehicles in your blind spots or approaching from behind.
Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM)
Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) helps you detect vehicles in your blind spots that may not be visible through your mirrors. Here’s how it works:- Detection: BSM uses sensors to monitor areas on either side and behind the vehicle that are difficult to see from the driver’s seat.
- Alert: When a vehicle enters your blind spot, the system activates an indicator on the side mirror, alerting you to the presence of a vehicle in that area.
- Active Warning: In some trims, BSM will also provide a more prominent alert if you attempt to change lanes while a vehicle is detected in your blind spot.
Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA)
Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) is designed to warn you about approaching vehicles when reversing out of parking spaces. This system uses radar sensors to detect cross traffic and can help you avoid potential collisions while backing up.- Detection Range: RCTA detects vehicles approaching from the left or right behind the vehicle as you reverse out of parking spaces or driveways.
- Alert: If cross traffic is detected, the system will provide a visual and audible alert to warn you of the potential danger.
- Rear Automatic Braking: Some trims also offer rear automatic braking, which can automatically apply the brakes to prevent or mitigate a collision if cross traffic is detected.
How to Use Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) & Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA)
- Activating the System: To activate BSM and RCTA, press the respective button on the dashboard. The systems will remain active as long as the vehicle is running.
- Adjusting Settings: In some trims, the sensitivity of the BSM and RCTA systems can be adjusted through the vehicle’s menu.
- Deactivating the System: If you wish to turn off the systems, press the button again to deactivate both BSM and RCTA.
