How to Locate, Check, and Replace Fuses on the 6th Generation 4Runner

(Reference: 2025 Owner’s Manual, pg. 560–562)

If any of your 4Runner’s electrical components stop working—such as power outlets, lights, or infotainment features—it may be due to a blown fuse. Here’s how to locate and inspect the fuse boxes on your 2025 4Runner.

Fuse Box Locations

There are three main fuse box locations:
  • Engine Compartment – Type A
  • Engine Compartment – Type B
  • Driver-Side Instrument Panel (Interior)
Use the tabs to lift the cover on the engine compartment fuse boxes. On the interior panel, you’ll need to remove the footwell light connector (if equipped), then remove the panel cover.

How to Check & Replace a Fuse

  1. Turn the engine switch OFF
  2. Open the appropriate fuse box cover
  3. Use the provided fuse puller to remove the suspect fuse
  4. Inspect the metal strip inside:
    • If broken: The fuse is blown
    • If intact: The fuse is good
  5. Replace with a new fuse of the same amperage rating
  6. Reinstall the lid securely
Only Type A fuses can be pulled using the included tool.

Fuse Types

There are four fuse types:
  • Type A & B: Mini blade-type (owner replaceable)
  • Type C & D: Special fuses (dealer service only)

Safety Precautions

  • Never use a fuse with a higher amp rating than specified
  • Don’t bypass fuses using wire or other objects
  • If the new fuse blows again, have the vehicle inspected immediately
  • Always determine the cause of the overload before replacing the fuse

Here is a look at the interior fuse box on the 6th Gen 4Runner.

The fuse box is no longer located in the driver's side, it's now on the passenger side under the glove box and airbag.

Just wanted to share a few photos of the fuse box location and the actual fuse box cover showing all the fuse names.

To access the fuse box, there is a cover just below the airbag. There are four tabs holding the cover on. To remove the cover, pull down on the outside corner and then push in on the clip to release the tab. Repeat for each of the tabs and the cover will come off.

@Trail4R The two pictures of the engine compartment fuse boxes, seem to be reversed. At least in my vehicle the one shown here as being on the passenger side, is in my vehicle on the driver side and vice versa.

I'll check the fuse boxes again and confirm my titles above both photos. Thanks for calling it out.
