Replacing both the engine air filter and cabin air filter is a simple and effective way to maintain engine efficiency and interior air quality. Toyota recommends inspecting or replacing both filters at regular intervals, especially if you drive in dusty or off-road conditions.

Engine Air Filter

Toyota recommends checking the engine air filter every 15,000 miles or sooner in dirty environments. To replace it:
  1. Open the hood and locate the air filter housing on the driver side
  2. Release the two clips holding the cover
  3. Lift the lid and remove the old filter
  4. Insert the new filter, ensuring it sits flush
  5. Re-secure the lid and clips
Do not use compressed air to clean the filter. Replace it if excessively dirty or damaged.

Cabin Air Filter

Toyota recommends checking the cabin air filter every 15,000 miles. To replace it:
  1. Open the glove box
  2. Push in the sides to release the stops and lower it completely
  3. Remove the cabin filter housing cover
  4. Pull out the filter cartridge and inspect it
  5. Insert the new filter (make sure the AIR FLOW direction arrows point down)
  6. Reinstall the cover and glove box
Cabin filters trap dust, pollen, and airborne contaminants. A clogged filter can reduce HVAC airflow and window defogging performance.
