If you're considering the 2025 Toyota 4Runner and deciding between the SR5 and Sport trims, here's a quick breakdown of what sets these two models apart. With the 2025 model year, the Sport Premium now replaces the old SR5 Premium and leaves the SR5 behind for the people who only want the basics - and not an option more. Sounds like they just kept the SR5 name around for ol' time's sake.

The SR5 is beyond basic but it will get the job done for many.

The Sport base comes with larger wheels, a better gauge cluster display, heated cloth seats, the coveted 4Runner hood scoop, a "tuned" suspension, and a different grille.

Both SR5 & Sport Base models come with the same i-FORCE 2.4L and transmission, 278 horsepower, 317 lb.-ft. of torque, 8" multimedia touch screens, and manual seats. Both are offered in 2wd & 4wd.

It isn't until the Sport Premium you get the good stuff: SofTex® heated/ventilated seats, heated leather steering wheel, 14-inch touchscreen, JBL® audio with Bluetooth® speaker, hands-free power liftgate, and the Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) for 360° visibility. Also, the Sport Premium finally opens up the door for the optional moonroof ($850) and tow tech package ($400).

I think the best-selling new 4Runner will be the new Sport Premium.

  • Interior Upgrades: SofTex® heated/ventilated seats, heated leather steering wheel, TRD shift knob.
  • Tech: 14-inch touchscreen, JBL® audio with Bluetooth® speaker, hands-free power liftgate.
  • Features: Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) for 360° visibility.
None of these models have access to the i-FORCE MAX (hybrid option), sway bar disconnect, multi-terrain monitor, rear differential locker, pre-wired aux switches, and colors like Everest, or Mudbath.

What do you think?

Which trim would you pick?

Any idea of what the "Sport-tuned suspension" includes and what kind of ride to expect?

I am interested in the Sport (Base) model in 4x4 and will be using the 4Runner for some commuting and long distance Highway travel.

I doubt the sport suspension is anything special. Maybe just a different shim stack and a little bit stiffer than the SR5. Rebound and compression might be a little more controlled but I doubt that its going to be a huge noticeable difference. But who knows. Need to get some seat time.
