I have the chance to buy a ‘21 with 30 K. It is listed at 35 K and I was thinking it’s just another 10 K to buy into the 6 Gen. it will take me most of the year to save up the difference so will not get it until June of 26. What do you recommend and why? Thanks

Really depends on how you intend to use the vehicle.

What are your plans with it?
How long do you plan on keeping it?
What's the goal? Daily driver, overland build?
What models exactly are you looking at on both sides? SR5 premium 5th Gen vs base model 6th Gen?

Sounds like you're looking at a 6th Gen SR5 as well? If you're looking at a base 2025 SR5, it's not all that impressive compared to the premium models. I'd honestly stay with a 5th Gen over a 6th Gen if you're looking at non-premium 6th Gens.

The new motor, even on the base 6th Gen non-hybrid, is much quicker than the old 4.0L V6 1GR. If you're after speed for highway use, the new generation is the move.

What exactly are you considering and what are your goals?

Thanks for your insight, I plan to keep it 12 years or longer. Daily driver with distance trips to national parks. Plan to buy a Bean Teardrop to haul along. Both models are SR5, would prefer TRD Sport on Gen 6 if pricing is right. Goals are super dependable and safe transportation in Texas on highways and back roads. Some basic off roading in Arkansas to reach Cosattot River State Park. I am considering this as our only vehicle.

@JDG - both are killer options. I love my 5th Gens, but I also love the new 6th Gen (premium hybrid). If you can get a premium or hybrid spec - I say go for the 6th Gen - it's a world of a difference over the 5th Gens. But if you're looking at a TRD Sport (non-hybrid, non-premium), you may feel disappointed with the interior and performance. Regardless, like I said, the new 2.4 I4 motor on the 6th Gen is much quicker than the old 5th Gen. Just go test drive the new 6th Gen and make sure you test drive them all: base model TRD Sport, Premium model, and a hybrid model. Make sure you drive all three before you make a purchase.

You can't go wrong with a 5th Gen, though, if the price is right. Amazing platform... just slow and outdated tech, and really only the tech can be upgraded with new head units. Even if you put a supercharger on a 5th gen for an extra $10K... the new 6th Gen is still faster than a supercharged 5th Gen.
