When it comes to hauling larger gear, especially long items like tables, the 6th Gen 4Runner offers a notable improvement over its predecessor, the 5th Gen.

6th Gen 4Runner: A Clear Winner

The 6th Gen 4Runner comfortably passes the 6’ table test. The vehicle’s cargo space measures approximately 6’ 2” from the end of the cargo area to the back of the front seats, providing plenty of room for items like full-length 6’ plastic tables. One of the key advantages here is the 6th Gen’s ability to fold the back seats forward without having to lift the lower seat cushion. This design feature opens up additional space, allowing for longer items to fit without any issues.

5th Gen 4Runner: Not Quite There

In comparison, the 5th Gen 4Runner falls short in this department. The overall length of the cargo space is only around 5’ 9”, which makes it difficult to transport a full 6’ table unless you get creative with positioning or fold down the front seats, which isn’t ideal for long items.

Verdict:

If you’re someone who frequently transports larger items like 6’ tables, the 6th Gen 4Runner is a clear upgrade. The increased cargo space and improved seat folding system make it a more practical choice for hauling long gear. For 5th Gen owners, this could be a reason to consider the newer model if hauling long items is a priority for you.
