The 5th Gen 4Runner has been lacking in the lumen department for quite some time. In 2020, the 4Runner finally received LED low-beam headlights, high-beam headlights, fog lights, and tail lights. While almost all the optics changed, the high-beam reflector bowl design stayed the same. The high-beam reflector bowl stopped producing the high-beam output and was replaced by the low-beam projector housing. When you turn on your high beams in the 2020-2024 LED-equipped 4Runner, a secondary light comes on in the low beam projector providing the high beam.
Well folks, in 2025 we finally get new designs and new optics all the way around! Let's look at the TRD PRO, TrailHunter, and Limited to see what we're working with.
TRD PRO
- TRD Pro LED Headlights: You get illuminated "TRD" stamped on the passenger side and "Pro" stamped on the driver side.
- LED Projectors with high-beam and low-beam independent
- Large amber wrap-around DRL
- TRD Pro Fog Lights: Rigid fog lights and the "TRD PRO" LED lightbar
- TRD Pro Tail Lights: Red LED stripes
TrailHunter
- TrailHunter LED Headlights: You get the illuminated TrailHunter icon stamped on the passenger and the "TrailHunter" text stamped on the driver's side.
- LED Projectors with high-beam and low-beam independent
- Large amber wrap-around DRL
- TrailHunter Fog Lights: Rigid fog lights and the LED lightbar
- TrailHunter Tail Lights: Red LED stripes
Other Trims
- Other Trim Headlights: You get "4Runner" stamped on both headlight housings.
- LED Projectors with high-beam and low-beam independent
- Large white wrap-around DRL
- Other Trim Fog Lights: Rigid fog lights
TRD PRO Tail Lights
Pretty impressive lighting all the way around so far. We'll see what the lighting looks like on the SR5 and Off-Road models. Hoping it's similar to the TRD Pro and not the limited but knowing Toyota the poors will likely get stuck with the white DRL and no badging other than "4Runner" - which is still pretty cool at the end of the day.
