The 5th Gen 4Runner has been lacking in the lumen department for quite some time. In 2020, the 4Runner finally received LED low-beam headlights, high-beam headlights, fog lights, and tail lights. While almost all the optics changed, the high-beam reflector bowl design stayed the same. The high-beam reflector bowl stopped producing the high-beam output and was replaced by the low-beam projector housing. When you turn on your high beams in the 2020-2024 LED-equipped 4Runner, a secondary light comes on in the low beam projector providing the high beam.

Well folks, in 2025 we finally get new designs and new optics all the way around! Let's look at the TRD PRO, TrailHunter, and Limited to see what we're working with.

Pretty impressive lighting all the way around so far. We'll see what the lighting looks like on the SR5 and Off-Road models. Hoping it's similar to the TRD Pro and not the limited but knowing Toyota the poors will likely get stuck with the white DRL and no badging other than "4Runner" - which is still pretty cool at the end of the day.

It seems like from a design standpoint Toyota has made an attempt to correct an issue. There’s aftermarket fixes, but those can be a house payment to implement, so it’s nice to see folks shelling out the $$$ for a 6th Gen won’t have to reach back in their pockets just for an aftermarket upgrade. Will be cool to see them in person, and maybe TRDJon could do a video on a headlight throw comparison between the 5th & 6th…
