I just hit 5K miles with my new 6th Gen 4Runner! It is telling me to service my 4R, so, the ultimate question, should I get an oil change now? Or, should I wait till 10K like the manual says? What would you all do?

Always change it at 5-6k miles no matter what the manual says. 10k oil changes are just marketing gimmick and would never trust my stuff at 10k even if its synthetic.

I have been doing 5k oil changes on all my turbo gas engines. At the advice of a HS buddy who works at Toyota, I change my Wife's Rav4 at 5k also.

The maintenance required is for tire rotation. The new 4Runner is 10,000-mile oil changes which is crazy. I bought the service plan and at 5000 miles I'm going to change it at home and do the 10,000 mile change at the dealership.

I'm more impressed with your MPG. 19.5 is crazy. Is your 4runner stock. I get 14 MPG with 285 70 17 and a 2.25 inch lift.
