So I'm at about 2600 miles now on my new 6th Gen, and I was wondering if you all are planning to do a break-in oil change on your new 4Runners. I never have in the past with any of my new vehicles. No...its not because I don't keep them long enough to care, I just simply am going by the manual that Toyota provided. But every time I make a YouTube video about my 5K maintenance, people are always up in arms that I don't do an oil change during that time. So I am curious what you all plan on doing with your new 4Runners.

I'm sitting at 1400 miles right now and planning to change mine this or next weekend. We ordered an oil analysis kit and will be sending ours off for the results.

There is a guy in the Facebook group who shared someone else's oil. Not sure who these photos belong to, but the guy claims "tons of metal" in the oil at only 1000 miles. A tiny bit might be expected, but if your oil filter is working properly, you shouldn't see anything.

While a small amount of fine particles can be expected as engine components settle, seeing a noticeable or excessive amount isn’t typical and could point to a problem. A properly functioning oil filter should catch most debris, and many owners who’ve changed their oil early, around 1,000 to 2,000 miles, have reported clean oil and filters.

It's worth changing early, in my opinion. It can't hurt. You might remove microscopic metal particles and contaminants that accumulate during the engine break-in period, reducing wear on internal components. This topic has been beaten to death in other forums for years, but the main reason why people do it is to ensure the engine starts its life with clean oil and a clean filter, promoting long-term durability.
