After a long awaited debut, we finally get to see the new 6th Gen 4Runner up close and it does not fall short of expectations. One detail that was discussed with their Chief Engineer Sheldon Brown is the Pro's version of a rock slider or side step. He called it a "Pro Panel Protector" and said it isn't a true rock slider like the one that comes with the Trailhunter. He mentions that the Pro's panel protectors are there more for protection from flying rocks and debris while off roading or whatever else may fly up while operating it.

At first glance, they are nicely done and are very reminiscent of the TRD side steps that the Pro Sequoia comes with. They provide somewhat of a step, more than the rock rail protectors that the Tacoma comes with and are textured in that bed liner texture to avoid slipping. If you end up being one of the lucky ones with a TRD Pro allocation, my question to you is do you keep these on the rig or take them off for actual rock sliders?
