How to Turn Off the Exterior Hatch Light (Trailer Hitch Light) on 2025+ (6th Gen) Toyota 4Runner

If you’re seeing a light stay on near the trailer hitch or just under the liftgate when your 4Runner is parked or unlocked, that’s the trailer hitch light—and yes, you can turn it off manually.

Trailer Light Dash Switch​

Toyota includes a dedicated switch on the dashboard (left of the steering wheel) with three settings:

• ON – Light stays on
• OFF – Light stays off
• AUTO – Light turns on when doors are unlocked or the smart key is detected

The switch is usually located near the left side of the steering wheel, grouped with other exterior light and safety controls. If you don’t want the light turning on automatically every time you approach the vehicle, flip it to OFF.
