If this new 4Runner is anything like the new 4th Gen Tacoma and also new Land Cruiser 250, it should fit larger than OEM spec tires nicely. The new TRD Pro and Trailhunter come with 33" Toyota tires from the factory and most likely the hybrid models will as well (since Tacoma does). With the previous gen 4Runner, you would need to start trimming in some areas and remove mud flats to achieve this same feat. I stuffed close to 34" tires on my new Tacoma (with a lift but not needed) and I still have my mud flaps. Toyota made it super easy to run larger tires by allowing us to take off the tire crash support bar which allows for more scrub clearance of larger tires. They also use a felt liner for the fender well which makes pinning back the fender liner much easier rather than heating up plastic and trying to bang it into place like you had to on the previous gen.

People with new Tacomas an Land Cruisers are fitting 35s and even 37s with very minimal modifications. I can't wait to see the same for the new 4Runner!

New LC on 37s with a 2/1 pre collar kit. It rubbed a bit, but we were still able to get it out of the shop and stage it for photos. No trimming.

Fitting 35" tires on the 6th Gen 4Runner is easier than the 5th Gen only because there is no need for a body mount chop, but fully stuffing/clearing 35" tires is a different story.

You still have to trim both the front bumper, fender flares, and rear fender flares if you plan on actually off-roading the vehicle.

We finally tested the 6th Gen this weekend on 35" Arroyo M/Ts with +25MM Lock Beadlocks sitting on a 2.25" peak collar with a 2" rear spacer on the spring.

Fully clearing 35" tires at full lock, stuffed on the trail, proves to be a bit more challenging than most people make it out to be. 35" Tires fit on a 6th Gen 4Runner on the road with this setup, but not off-road. 35" tires do not fully stuff into the wheel well off-road with the specs we're running above, and will cause the rear fender flares in the rear to pop off. Our felt liner in the front has also started to fall off from big, high-speed hits in the desert after our NorCal Signal Peak run. We broke a handful of clips off the felt liner, and it was dragging on the tire. I had to cut out a big section and zip tie it further back into the fender well.

To run 35" tires and clear them off-road, we need extended bump stops to limit the uptravel in addition to a full-height 3" rear spring, and even then, trimming of the actual fender flare will be required in order for the tire to fully stuff into the well without causing the fender flares to pop off. Just like the 5th Gen, the center point of the axle/hub is closer to the inner portion of the rear fender, causing the fender flare by the door to easily pop off if you break off the two lower clips.
