I just posted this on Instagram the other day with the caption "6th Gen 4Runner on Portal Axles?....

The wheels are not mounted on the hubs, just leaning on the studs, but it gives you an idea of what it will potentially look like. Obviously the width is not going to be this extreme, but the height and general idea are there. Realistically, the width is going to come in about another 2-3" once the portals are on and the wheels are mounted on the hubs.

We're shooting to install some 74W portals on this thing in the next couple of months. I'll keep you guys posted.

Ok guys, it's official... the 74W portal axles have landed at StellarBuilt in Sacramento, and we're installing them this week. I will make this the dedicated 74Weld portal axle build thread; installation, wheel fitment, ground clearance specs before and after, etc. We have 37" Firestone Destination M/Ts going on our +25mm lock off-road beadlocks. The stance and fitment on the wheel/tire spec is going to be interesting. Technically, we should be running at least a +35mm wheel, and for the best tire fitment clearance, something like +45mm - +55mm wheel would really be ideal. Stay tuned, things are about to get interesting this week.

Portals have been installed. Sway bar has been deleted. We still have to swap new wheels on with a +25mm offset (currently on 0 offset), install new adjustable rear links from Dobinsons, finish wiring up the front Eaton e locker, and then we’re off to Dissent Offroad for full width front and rear bumpers + rock sliders. We also have a little bit of livery work to finalize as well. Finally, I’m waiting on some color (Ice Cap) matched rough country flares. The black flares work but I think wider color matched flares are going to look a bit better. It depends on what the stance looks like with the +25mm but we might color match our factory flares. Still unsure. We have about two weeks left until we hit the rubicon. But for now, portals are on. They drive amazing. Pretty stoked right now but a lot of work left.

Dissent off-road front bumper. The first full-width "Mustache Delete" bumper on the market for the 6th Gen, and they absolutely killed it. The design aesthetic matches the upper mustache and the wings on the 6G very well. They really thought of everything for this front bumper.

Sensor placement on the wings and the center bumper frame
TSS relocation in the center of the bumper
Multiple louvers through the center bumper frame
Light mounting options for light bars and light pods on top of the bumper
Multiple top filler plates for whatever light style you want to run
Light pod cutouts in the bottom of the bumper frame
Tons of access to reach the winch power and clutch
Lots of room to run wires behind the bumper

And so much more. I'll have a full review dropping on this front bumper after we go test it on the Rubicon next week.

Dissent off-road rear bumper installed. For now, we're going with no swingouts for the Rubicon to keep the weight down. After we finish the Rubicon, we will likely install the swingouts for a spare tire and then go hit some overland stuff this next season. This rear bumper is absolutely stunning though. I'll have a full follow-up review thread on this rear bumper when we get back from the Rubicon.

How's that tie rod angle, with that only being unsprung full droop it looks maxed out, did you check it with a tire at full?

Looks killer, I'm beyond jealous...

We flexed it out to clearance the fenders and flares. Spent about 2 days just trimming and clearing flares and fenders to stuff the 37s. Also had to push my axle back about 1” with the Dobinsons rear upper and lower links.

Zero problems with tie rod axles at full droop though. Whole point of portals is not only ground clearance and a gear reduction but absolutely level CV angles and tie rod angles. Not 100% sure what you’re asking there. Maybe rephrase?

Obviously money is no object. I was wondering what this project will set you back? ($) and what the MPG will end up being. This a project I have dreamed of since I discovered Unimogs, Pinzgauers and Volvo C303s.

Portals are $17k, labor $3k.

Dissent front/rear bumpers: About $5k

Dobinsons rear links: About $1000 for both
DOBINSONS REAR ADJUSTABLE TUBULAR STEEL SERIES LOWER TRAILING ARMS (PAIR)
DOBINSONS REAR ADJUSTABLE TUBULAR STEEL SERIES UPPER TRAILING ARMS (PAIR)

NYtop flares to match the width of the bumper $700-$1400

Those are the important mods for now. Everything else is just whatever you prefer. I still need a full suspension. Not sure what direction we're going, at the moment. MPG is still around 13 with the 37" M/Ts.
