Hello, I just picked up part number PT 228-89445 which is the suggested part number on all sites for the trailer hitch on a 25 4Runner. This comes with the trailer hitch pin and cotter pin.

What I found out very quickly is that this double walled trailer hitch receiver that's part of the 6th gen frame has a double wall receiver.

The pin is about a 16th of an inch shy from allowing you to put the cotter pin in to hold the hitch.

Has anyone tried this yet with the factory Toyota hitch and pin. And had the same problem or a workaround. Thank you in advance.

Addendum to my problem with the trailer hitch pin. I went to Harbor Freight today and bought another pin that looked like it might give me that extra 16th to a quarter inch that I need to get the cotter pin in. Got home and tried it and that is short as well. What's going on toyota? I need to put a trailer on the back and you're giving me a part number that isn't fitting this new double wall trailer hitch receiver. Anybody have any problems with this and we can chime in?

@MikeDuffy yeah all the new Gen Toyotas have a specific hitch pin that's designed for the new double wall trailer hitch receiver. I'll send over some photos here in a bit. Super annoying. I have a handful of hitch pins that are useless on the new 4Runner.

You need this part:

4RUNNER TACOMA TOYOTA FACTORY 6" LONG HITCH PIN FOR 2 INCH RECEIVER PT228-0C231

Thank you, after a couple of hours of searching around I found that part number as well. But my real question is it says in all of the searches that the 2025 4Runner comes with it.
So did you get the pin and the wiring plug With your new 25 model? I'm thinking this should have been supplied by all of the information I've been reading. Thank you

@MikeDuffy yeah I got the hitch pin and 7-pin wiring harness for towing with my TRD ORP with tow package.

I didn't get the tow package it just has the standard tow assist with cameras . So not sure if I'll get that seven pin coupler . Thank you

Sweet Jiminy crickets what a cluster of crap I'm going through just to get the dealer to send me out my missing lock pin that should have come with my new 4runner.

No one seems to know what the hell anybody is talking about. I finally got one guy that knows what we should expect to receive in the glove box.
I can see the Locking pin might be a strange one because Toyota changed their design, but really! they sell these 4Runners daily.

Latest update,

I did confirm that unless you have the tow package installed as an option from the manufacturer you will not get any type of hitch lighting plug like we used to get in the 5th gen.

They're only giving that hitch plug if you have a tow package installed. And I confirmed again from another dealership that yes we do get the Locking pin which is a longer one for the new designed trailer hitch receiver.
