I ordered my Gen6 SR5 about a month ago. Should arrive first half of February. As I anxiously await its arrival, I've been researching the warranty that comes with purchasing a new 4Runner, any choices offered and any options available to me.
Although I am not exactly sure of what all is coming with my new vehicle in terms of coverages and services, the Platinum Warranty is 3 years/36,000 miles. I spoke with the dealership I am purchasing from (I'm in Michigan, they are out of state) and I can extend it to a 8 year/125,000 miles for $2300 (not bad). I then contacted my local dealership in MI where I will get it serviced and they quoted me $3100. I told them of the other dealerships quote and they agreed to match that.
NOW, here is the crazy part...I read a thread on Reddit where someone wrote about a dealership in Kansas, Midwest Toyota. They said they sell the warranty cheaper than anyone, so cheap that other dealerships get pissed at them. I thought, what the heck, I'll try. So, after calling them, getting connected with the right person, I was speaking to Jerry Johnson. I told him my entire situation, asked him to price the warranty and here are the approximate numbers based on estimated mileage: 6 year/125K - $1150; 7 year/125K - $1325; and 8 year/125K $1500.
So, I went from $2300 at the dealer I am purchasing from to$3100 $2300 from my local dealership to $1500 from Mr Johnson in Kansas...which I will give my local dealership the opportunity to match when I purchase, if they desire.
$1500 for an 8 year, 125,000 mile, bumper-to-bumper Toyota Platinum warranty. One little glitch on a new Gen 6 feature and that will be doubly paid for I'm sure.
So, if you are interested, Jerry Johnson from Midwest Toyota in Hutchinson Kansas can be reached on his cell phone at 620-644-8844. His comment to me, "...half of America has my cell number

Platinum Warranty document attached.
