Heads-Up for Anyone Upgrading a Non-JBL Audio System (SR5)

Just finished upgrading the entire sound system in my SR5 (non-JBL), and I wanted to share a few tips that might save others some time and hassle.

I had to reorder brackets and speaker harnesses because there wasn’t much reliable info online—I was basically guessing as I went. So if you're planning a similar upgrade, here’s what I did:

  • Replaced all factory speakers
  • Installed an aftermarket amp and subs
If anyone needs help or has questions about parts, wiring, or setup, feel free to reach out. Happy to share what I learned!

Radio speaker output harness (to aftermarket amp or loc) - You can find these at several sites but I bought the Amazon Red Wolf 10 pin one for $14 then used some speed wire to run to amp.

Dash Tweeter - 2.75 - 3.5 (I installed a 2.75 but gutting the original tweeter) / Harness - 72-8109

Front Door - 6x9 - Harness - 72-8109 / Bracket - Metra 82-8146 w/ some minor modifications using a drill. 3 out of 4 holes lined up, had to use drill to line up last hole.

Rear Door - 6.5 - Harness - 72-8109 / Bracket - Metra 82-8148 perfect fit.

UPDATE - 11/19/25 - Aftermarket 14.6 Android Headunit!
Bought and installed the Aliexpress 14inch headunit!
Upgraded all speakers to Kickers. Have 3d print file for anyone looking for a bracket for the tweeters.
Subwoofer - 2x L7 12inch kickers
Amp - Kicker 51LX1200.5

Results
System sounds a million times better, Aliexpress unit took some messing around with but I got it working the way I want it. Here are some bad/good things about the unit in case anyone is thinking about getting one.

Bad
1. Randomly would turn on blank and have to manually reset through a pin hole button. (biggest issue by far)
2. Side USB C adapter harvested from stock unit no longer works.
3. GPS puck connection finicky, keeps undoing itself out. Have to tighten with wrench.
4. Bands for US not supported, using a US based SIM is not possible. (As a workaround you could buy an USB SIM network adapter)
5. 5v for 2 USB ports extremely weak, had to buy a step down module and supply my own 5v for USBs to be reliable.
6. Mic sucks, no matter what I do and where I place the mic I still get bad echoes. Even tried replacing it with another mic with same echo issues. (another big bad)

Good
1. Works with steering wheel
2. Works with reverse cam (had to set some settings to accept correct signal)
3. DSP on the head unit is pretty cool and makes my system sound amazing.
4. Android Auto/Carplay works great but with minor annoyances (when navigating the guidance sound is at the same volume as music... Not cool when you're thumpin hard and Siri tells you to turn loud AF.)
