Hey y’all. I was wondering what the best way was to remove the wheel center caps from the SR5 wheels. I have some TRD caps I want to replace them with, but I can’t find anything around the house to get them off.

Let me know what y’all have done, or what product (cheap) you recommend.

I will try it tomorrow, but to be truthful I'm not sure it would stick enough to get it off. I've tried a couple credit cards, its in there pretty good.

To properly remove the cap without damaging the cap or the wheel, you should take the wheel off.

With the wheel off, you can simply push the cap out, and it will come right off. Then you can snap the new caps in place.

Here’s a photo of the inside of the wheel. You can see the little retaining clips on the cap itself if you zoom in. With enough pressure from the inside, you can just push them out. You don’t even need to release the pressure on the tabs. The literally just pop right off.

We have to remove these on a daily basis at the shop. Once the wheel is off, they just pop right out. Don't try to remove them with the wheel mounted on the hub. You will likely damage the cap. They're designed to be pressed from the center of the cap from the inside.

I appreciate the advice… however I do not have the expertise to take the wheels off. Is there another way that I could do it without removing the wheels?

@zevinsanchez maybe just take it into a wheel/tire shop and have them swap the caps for you. The only other option would be a thin flathead screwdriver, but you risk damaging the SR5 cap and the inside of the wheel hub bore. But who really cares about the inside of the hub bore. No one is going to see it after the new caps are on.
