TRD Pro has the shakes…

I’ve had my TRD Pro for about 3-weeks now and ever since the first test drive it has had a shake. I figured a good wheel balancing would fix it, but thus far, no luck. The Dealership has done a Road-Force balance on each tire and have found one that was bad. After a 10-day wait on the replacement they changed it today and though the shake is reduced, it isn’t gone. At some speeds it is in the steering wheel and other speeds it is in the seat or console. I’m starting to wonder if something is screwy with more than the balance.

Has anyone had similar experiences? What was the solution?

Beyond the shake, I love the truck…

Sounds like you’ve got more than just a balance issue, but it could still be one that the dealer doesn't want to replace or pay for. With a brand new vehicle, if something isn't right, just keep taking it back.... again and again until they make it right. It's not your job to troubleshoot the issue at this point. That's the whole point of buying a new 4Runner.

But if you must troubleshoot, then it could be a multitude of things: alignment, bad tires, bad wheels, hub issue, wheel bearing, suspension issue, UCAs, LCAs, bushings, etc. - honestly, anything dude. What exactly is shaking? The steering wheel just subtly shaking back and forth at speed is usually a tire/wheel balance/alignment issue.

I wouldn't take it anywhere but the dealer you bought it from. You paid insane money for this vehicle. Make them look at it until it's 100% gone. lol

My trailhunter started shaking after the tires were rotated. I've had the wheel balance checked and it was fine though I haven't had them road force balanced yet. The vibrations are not in the steering wheel but can be felt in the seat starting around 60mph and gets worse the closer to 70+ you get.

Thanks for the response. Most of the shaking now seems to be in the steering wheel, and more pronounced when going around a bend at highway speeds. It isn't wicked bad, nut noticeable if paying attention. There is also some vibration through the seats, but much less than there was before the rear tire was swapped.

I had never engaged the 4-wheel drive, so last night I took it to a dirt road, and did so, just to see if maybe something in the front axle was not right because it had never been used. It drove fine in 4-wheel drive but did not fix the issue. I did however notice that if switching from 4HI to 2HI while stopped, the front Dif makes a loud clunk. The owner's manual doesn't say anything about not making this shift when stopped, but it doesn't make the clunk if moving.

The frustrating past is that the dealership service manager and salesperson both mentioned that some shaking, etc is to be expected with a vehicle like this with big off-road tires. I call bullshit on that.

Glad to hear it isn't just me, but not happy to hear you have an issue too. Perhaps wasn't noticeable in the previous position, or maybe they rotated the spare, onto on of the rear tire positions, it could be bad.

No, the spare wasn't rotated in as we did the tire rotation ourselves. I want to put them back and see if it still does it or not and I'll figure out from there what I'm going to do. I did not notice it before and I drove it on a 5000+ mile trip two days after bringing it home. I will probably get the alignment checked on it just to be sure that's ok although it drives straight, doesn't pull and don't feel any resistance when going around curves.
Hope you get yours figured out soon.
