Yo guys, finally got the Old Man Emu MT64 suspension installed on the 6th Gen 4Runner and wanted to share some quick first impressions.
The kit comes with pretty much everything you need out of the box. The shocks are massive with a 2.8" aluminum body and a 2.5" (64mm - hence the name MT64) monotube internal, and the kit also includes the same OME upper control arms we have seen on previous generations.

So far, I am pretty stoked on the setup, although I've run this suspension before on my 5th Gen 4Runner, so I know what to expect. They are great shocks. The ride quality is noticeably better than the OEM shocks with spacers I was running before. It is super plush on the road and absorbs general bumps and rough roads incredibly well. Before, with the OEM shocks and spacers, heading over a curb into the driveway, there was a noticeable harsh hit, and now the rear shocks and soft rear springs soak it up with ease. It's just a very soft, plush, comfortable suspension overall.
One thing I like about the OME suspension packages is that their entire system (coilovers, rear springs, rear shocks, and UCAs) is designed as a complete tuned package, not just random parts/brands thrown together.
Overall, it is a really well-thought-out suspension system for both on and off-road.
After a few drives around town and some rough roads, the first thing you will notice is how smooth and controlled the ride feels compared to stock shocks with spacers.
The truck feels more planted, small bumps are absorbed much better, and the suspension feels like it actually has usable travel instead of just being stiff.
Still need to get it out wheeling and see how it performs off pavement, but I've already tested the MT64s off-road in the 5th Gen, and they've been great, so I am expecting them to be very similar on the 6th Gen.
The front coilovers come fully assembled for a direct bolt-in installation at the highest level (the max 3" lift), and the snap ring allows ride height adjustment depending on how much lift you want to run. Since we're on portals, we didnt want the full 3" of lift so we dropped the snap ring down to the second perch above the bottom. So almost all the way down,
MT64 Key Features from ARBs Website:
The MT64 system is engineered for both on-road comfort and off-road performance. It is tuned specifically for the 6th Gen 4Runner and includes several design upgrades over traditional lift shocks. The larger aluminum body allows for better thermal management, while the monotube design helps maintain consistent damping when the suspension is working hard.
- Tuned specifically for the 6th Gen 4Runner
- Massive 2.8" aluminum shock body for more oil capacity and improved heat dissipation
- 6-position ride height adjustment allowing up to about a 3 inch front lift
- Hydraulic End Zone technology to soften harsh top out events and unexpected bumps
- Forged ball joint housing
- Forged eyelets
- Heavy duty greaseable ball joint with OME protective cap
- GIIRO bushings that are free pivoting and maintenance free
- Increased camber and caster correction for about a 50mm lift
- Mount provisions for OE ABS wiring
- ARB’s Intergrit powder coat finish
- Digressive valving that reacts quickly to changing terrain
- Large oil capacity for improved shock performance
- Aerospace grade aluminum body that dissipates heat faster than steel
- Forged body caps and rod ends for strength with reduced weight
- Hydraulic end zone top out to soften extension impacts
