Who has purchased an extended warranty? Is it worth it? I'm thinking about going with a hybrid right away for this new 4Runner. It's awesome that Toyota says that hybrid-related components are covered for 8 years/100,000 miles, whichever comes first from the original date of first use when sold as new. The hybrid battery is also covered for 10 years/150,000 miles, whichever comes first, and is transferable across ownership. Do you plan to purchase additional? If so, who has the best options?

5-10 years ago I would have said no. However with as much computer components that these new cars come with I feel you almost have to. Touch screens, digital dashes, all the safety stuff.

For me, I’d purchase the largest package possible, especially if mine had the hybrid package.

It's going to heavily depend on how user serviceable it is. I've already bought and sold newer vehicles with all these electronics and locked down computer systems. Time will tell where the 6th gen falls and how Toyota goes about things. That being said, I did get an extended warranty on my 5th gen.

Be careful with extended warranties and read the fine print. Surprisingly, some warranties exclude nuts, bolts, gaskets, etc. it’s their way of recouping some money.

I am going to wait until or original factory warranty is about to expire and then buy the Platinum Warranty, why buy it now? I am covered for 3 years ?

I just picked up The TRD Pro yesterday, like said above, if your gonna keep it for any length of time and with all the electronics I got the extended, that way they can wrap it right into the loan.

I added 7yr/100k to my pro, same as my 2020. Cost was $2700. Given that I haven’t even hit 500 miles and already have a warning for “reduced engine power, visit dealer”, I’d say it was a good call.

Is your 4Runner a 2025 ? If so, you have a 3 year warranty right ? I just bought a 2025 TRD Off Road being delivered May 13th, I am covered by the factory warranty for 3 years so I am going to wait until Month 35 before I buy a Platinum Warranty, I am not about wasting my coin, just sayin. I paid cash for my 2025 with California taxes etc came out to about $60K.

Yea it’s a ‘25. I feel like you have more leverage when you’re negotiating the price of the warranty at the time of sale vs mo 35. Wait till then and they have no reason to discount it since your factory bumper to bumper is about to run out… and they know it.
