Adding Side Storage Lantern on 6th Gen 4Runner?

Looking at some of the mods Toyota offers from the factory, I was reminded of the side storage lantern in the new 4Runner. I know its a novelty and not the most useful but I like upfitting my cars as best as I can makes it feel like I got a higher trim model then I did.

Question is, if your 4Runner didn’t come with one, can you actually add it later? Or does it require swapping out the whole interior trim panel where it mounts?

Has anyone looked into this or tried to retrofit one? Curious if it’s a simple plug-and-play with wiring already in place, or if it ends up being a bigger job than it’s worth.

There's no wiring, the light takes batteries, and yes you can add it from Toyota or get it online. It came with my trim but not something I'd add, not worth the price, kinda flimsy. They do make other options for that space.

There's alternatives that fit in the secret dash cubby compartment space. Here's the "FRED Flashing Roadside Emergency Flare" circular LED light puck from Home Depot for just $9.95.

Fits perfectly in the dash compartment behind the OEM cover. Just use some velcro on the backside to keep it from rattling and in place.
