The Pre-Collision System (PCS) in the 2025 4Runner is a vital safety feature designed to help prevent or mitigate the effects of a collision. By utilizing sensors and cameras, the PCS can detect potential obstacles or vehicles ahead, providing alerts to the driver and, in some cases, automatically applying the brakes to avoid a collision or reduce impact severity. Here’s how it works.

Pre-Collision System (PCS) Overview

The PCS uses radar and cameras mounted in the front of the vehicle to monitor the road ahead for potential hazards:
  • Detection Range: The system can detect vehicles, pedestrians, or obstacles in its path, typically at speeds below 40 mph.
  • Automatic Braking: If a collision is imminent and the driver does not take corrective action, the PCS will automatically apply the brakes to reduce the severity of the impact or prevent the collision altogether.
  • Alert System: When an obstacle is detected, the system provides both visual and audible warnings to alert the driver to take action.

How the Pre-Collision System Works

  1. Monitoring the Road Ahead: The PCS continuously scans the area in front of the vehicle using radar and cameras.
  2. Early Detection: If the system detects a potential collision, it will first provide an alert to the driver.
  3. Warning and Response: If the driver doesn’t respond in time, the system will automatically apply the brakes to slow down the vehicle and mitigate the impact.

Limitations and Considerations

  • Weather Conditions: The system’s performance may be affected by poor visibility due to heavy rain, fog, or snow.
  • Low-Speed Detection: PCS is most effective at lower speeds, typically under 40 mph. At higher speeds, the system may not always be able to prevent a collision.
  • Pedestrian Detection: While the system can detect pedestrians, its performance may vary depending on the size, speed, and position of the pedestrian

How To disable the Pre-Collision System (PCS) in the 2025 Toyota 4Runner

  1. Via the Multi-Information Display:
    • Navigate to the Settings menu using the multi-information display.
    • Select Pre-Collision System from the list of available settings.
    • Toggle the system to Off to disable it.
  2. Manual Deactivation:
    • You can also deactivate the PCS by pressing the PCS Off button, which is typically located on the dashboard near the driver's side door or under the steering wheel, depending on the trim.
Note: Disabling PCS will prevent the system from alerting you of potential collisions and applying the brakes automatically in case of an imminent crash. It is generally recommended to keep PCS enabled for safety, unless there is a specific need to turn it off (e.g., when towing).

Will be setting up all my features/customizing setting this weekend. I have this safety features on another vehicle that allows you to set a sensitivity level for the detection features ... PCS, Adaptive Cruise, etc. I do not see that option on the 4runner. Anyone know if it is possible. I live in a traffic intense area on the highways so while a great safety feature it can be a little aggressively deployed if not possible to set a lower level of sensitivity.
