Keeping your tires properly inflated helps with safety, ride comfort, tire life, and fuel efficiency. The 2025 4Runner is equipped with a Tire Pressure Warning System (TPWS) to help monitor PSI levels, but it’s still important to understand how to check and adjust pressure manually.

Recommended Cold Tire Pressure

Cold inflation pressure should always be checked when the tires are cold—after the vehicle has been parked for at least 3 hours or driven less than 1 mile. Here are the official specs:
  • All tire sizes (17", 18", 20"):
    Front & Rear: 33 psi (230 kPa, 2.3 kgf/cm² or bar)
  • Spare Tire (Temporary): 60 psi (420 kPa, 4.2 kgf/cm² or bar)
  • When fully loaded, add 4 psi to rear tires (2WD only)

How to Check and Adjust PSI

  1. Remove tire valve cap
  2. Use a pressure gauge on each tire
  3. Add or release air as needed to reach 33 psi
  4. Check for leaks with soapy water at the valve
  5. Replace valve cap when done

When to Check

  • Check tire pressure every two weeks or at least once a month
  • Don’t forget the spare tire
  • Heat from driving increases pressure—check when cold for accuracy

Effects of Incorrect Pressure

  • Poor fuel economy
  • Decreased handling and ride comfort
  • Uneven or premature tire wear
  • Potential drivetrain damage
  • Higher risk of blowouts

TPWS Notes

  • TPWS may not detect sudden tire rupture
  • “Adjust Pressure” = general drop in pressure
  • “Immediately Check Tire” = emergency warning
  • After tire changes or rotation, you may need to register new TPWS IDs
